Ready to be outside enjoying the beautiful Mountain air in a cozy Mountain town? If so Manitou Springs needs you! We are looking for seasonal help May - August or September to assist with parks and other city maintenance needs within the city.

This position is a member of the Parks and Recreation Department and reports directly to the Lead/Deputy Parks and Recreation Director. All staff in the Parks and Recreation Department,whether directly or indirectly, are supervised by the Parks and Recreation Director. The Seasonal Park Maintenance Worker will perform a variety of maintenance duties in support of the Parks and Recreation Department including a wide variety of physical tasks related to park maintenance, facility maintenance, and general City upkeep. The Seasonal Park Maintenance Worker will be expected to assist other Public Services divisions as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

(The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or auxiliary duties that may be required. Duties may vary depending upon division hired for and division to division cross-over.):

  • Seeding, Aeration, and fertilization of parks within the city.

  • Drive vehicles required travel to work sites.

  • Perform maintenance, construction and inspection of city parks and playgrounds, city facilities, city gardens, and city equipment.
  • Perform landscaping, planting and maintenance of vegetation to include but not limited to: trim/cut trees and shrubs, rake, mow grounds, and water plants.
  • Prepare and repair irrigation systems.
  • Maintain playground swings, slides, Mineral Spring fonts, pavilions, bike paths, trails and buildings.
  • Assist with opening and closing the cemetery ground and burials.
  • Report maintenance issues, damages, and acts of vandalism.
  • Collects and disposes of trash and recyclables.

  • Clean, wash and disinfect drinking fountains.
  • Sets up, arranges, and removes decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
  • Inspects facilities after each city facility event; ensure cleaning is completed as necessary.
  • Inspect materials and workmanship to insure quality standards.
  • Complete work in a professional manner utilizing accepted standards and practices.
  • Plows snow, shovels sidewalks, and performs other winter hazard mitigation.

  • Assists other public services departments with tasks.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Form and Pour Concrete
  • Install Signs
  • Participate in the construction, maintenance, and/ or repair of the streets and storm drains.

QUALIFICAITONS:


  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Must be computer literate with Microsoft Office familiarity.
  • Must pass a motor vehicle record review and a driving evaluation upon offer of employment.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and equipment, including identification of, precautions for and emergency response to hazardous gases and vapors.
  • Must have some understanding of general construction practices and be proficient with various hand tools.
  • Must be able to comprehend oral and written instructions and communicate in English orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the public.
  • Demonstrate good workmanship in a neat and timely manner while maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
  • Must be able to complete work in a professional manner utilizing accepted standards and practices.
  • Ability to perform tasks and assist coworkers with minimal supervision.
